It’s interesting to learn what some of the students did during that time when they committed themselves to not turning on the television.
  Our second-fifth grade students will be taking the NWEA Tests the first 2 weeks in May.  Students are tested in the areas of reading, language, and mathematics.
Text Box:   Title I and Kids First teamed up for a final parent/child activity night on March 30.  Their goal was to promote reading and give ideas of what parents can do with their children when reading books.  Several students took their parents into the computer lab to demonstrate how testing works for Accelerated Reading. 
  Lisa Fest, who teaches nutrition to our students through a program sponsored by Cottonwood County, has been coming to our classrooms Text Box: throughout the year.  Just recently she completed the nutrition unit with our second graders by having them make a meal using all of the food groups.  We met in the cafeteria on April 3 to make tacos, root beer floats, chocolate shakes, and also to prepare a platter of fresh vegetables and a platter of fruit.  The children prepared all of the foods with close supervision given by the adults.
  We will be having “No TV Week” April 24-30.  During this week we give our students suggestions as Text Box: RRC ON ‘TOP 22’ LIST OF SCHOOLS
Text Box:   Red Rock Central School District was recently cited as one of 22 districts out of 322 on the list of outperforming school districts in Minnesota.  The list, released by Standard & Poor’s School Evaluation Services, shows where districts rate in reading and math Text Box: proficiency.
  RRC Elementary had an 81.8% proficiency in reading and 84.9% in math, whereas RRC Secondary had a 86.7% proficiency in reading and 73.0% in math.
  In order to make the list, districts Text Box: must score better than other districts with similar free and reduced lunch percentages.  Districts must be at a threshold score based on the free and reduced lunch percentage and the high performance must also occur two years in a row.
