What is Decathlon?

The United State Academic Decathlon (U.S.A.D.) is an association of state programs dedicated to recognizing and rewarding academic achievements and excellence in high school students.  U.S.A.D. achieves its mission through local, state, and national competitions in which students compete with students from other schools.
Each team consists of three Honors, or "A" students, three Scholastic, or "B" students, and three Varsity, or "C" students.  For the team total, the top two composite scores of each category are used.
Students are tested in the following categories at Regions:
1) Language & Literature
2) Music
3) Art
4) Mathematices
5) Economics
6) Social Studies
7) Super Quiz (Understanding Others)
At the State level the following are added:
1) Speech
2) Interview
3) Essay
Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded for individual events and total scores.  Winners at various competitions around the country advance to the next level, which ends in a national championship.
